Chankerk spent his early childhood in the surroundings of river and mountain in
countryside of Malaysia, which stimulated his passion in depicting mother nature in his
early period of pursuing art.

After completing his formal fine art  training in Nanyang Academy of Fine arts. His long
and intensive involvement in illustration and animation had nurtured his sensitivity in
capturing movements and interactions in his later creation of art.

While working on commercial art, Chankerk would devote his spare  time in fine art . He
had co-established Impasto Art Junction, a painting arts centre for adults from all walks
of life, conducted professional painting workshops in Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts.
He was also chairman of Sentosa Artists Village from 2001-2004 and is presently the
chairman of Two Right Feet. He is also the founder of myartspace.

In his personal artworks, Chankerk is versatile in approaching different subjects and
medium. His trademark is his spontaneity and immediacy in handling mediums. His
art is solidly grounded in his observation  of his surrounding and the inspiration
generated from them. His visual vocabulary come from the area in which he lives and
works in Asia, in particular the landscapes, artifacts and culture of south east asia.

His approach to painting is one of finding order in chaos. A finished painting is the
result of various processes involved in the dialogue between his subject, the medium
he is working with and his imagination. He seldom begins with any set idea of how a
painting should look instead would start with usually impulsive gestural action
interacting with colours and forms that are created, formulating the direction of the
painting.

Time is also an important part of his painting process, he feels very strongly that the
more one can engage his own feeling in reading a painting, the more one will become
personally involved with that work.
