“Treat a work of art like a prince: let it speak to you first.” - Arthur Schopenhauer

Art Appreciation is the knowledge and understanding of the universal and timeless qualities that identify all great art. The more you appreciate and understand the art of different eras, movements, styles and techniques, the better you can evaluate and appreciate artwork.
As part of our ongoing efforts to promote art and cultural awareness and appreciation to the public, My Art Space organises a series of art events on a regular basis.

aArt Talks @ My Art Space
|
Art Talks take place on a regular basis at My Art Space, covering subjects such as
aesthetics, and the various art styles and movements.
Artists are also invited to talk about their works (e.g. subject matters, concepts, creative
methodologies, etc.) or a particular subject matter related to art. This is a great platform
for interaction and awareness of what is happening in the contemporary art scene.
In addition, discussions are held on issues like the constant search of the meaning and
purpose of art; why it is or is not important to talk about art; whether it is has universal
appeal or its understanding is just reserved for a certain group of people which makes
art elitist; even the hierarchy that exists in art itself.
“When bankers get together they talk about art. When artists get together, they talk about money.” - Oscar Wilde

These talks are open to public and suitable for all levels. Information will be updated on
our website (under News) every month.

techniques, works and more!

My Art Space is calling for fun, funky and open-
minded arty individuals to join our bimonthly art
sharing group – My.Art.Speak!
We believe that through such sharing sessions,
the eyes of others might help an artist see their
work more clearly, and the artist might learn
much via constructive criticism.
The format will be an informal roundtable peer
critique; a verbal discussion about the artist’s
work between peers. Occasionally, we may invite
an experienced artist or friendly critic to join the
session.
“It is a well-known fact that we see the faults in other's works more readily than we do in our own.” - Pablo Picasso

aPlein Air Workshop in the Park
|
"To give life to beauty, the painter uses a whole range of colours, musicians of sounds, the cook of tastes - and it is indeed remarkable that there are seven colours, seven musical notes and seven tastes." - Lucien Tendret, La Table au pays de Brillat-Savarin

Painting Workshop in the Park; a unique learning experience in a beautiful location
Olga Bliznetsova (bio here) will be on site to provide guidance and brief demonstration
on the finer points of en plein air - a French expression which means "in the open air",
and is particularly used to describe the act of painting outdoors.
So bring along your art materials, and "paint on the ground" as Claude Monet, Camille
Pissarro, and Pierre-Auguste Renoir once did. And after the session you may want to
celebrate your fruitful day with a picnic at the park, just don’t forget to bring along some
snacks and drinks to enjoy.
Details:
Date : Last Saturday of every month (excluding public holidays)
Time : 9:00am – 11:30am
Fee : $20.00 per person (excluding materials)
Check list of what to bring: materials of your choice (paint, brush, paper/canvas, water,
etc. etc.), foldable chair, easel (optional), mosquito repellent, sun protection, snacks
and drinks.
