Architect & Interior Designer
"When I finish my painting and I am happy with it, it gives me a great sense of accomplishment. Art makes me feel alive."
About the Artist.
I am Bhavana Kapur, an Indian, professionally trained as an Architect and an Interior designer. I have worked and enjoyed being in the above industry for more than a decade. Designing, planning and creating have been an integral part of my life.
How do you get started in creating art and how does it enrich your life?
Art was a subject taught in school which I always loved, however over a period of time it took a complete backseat. After moving to Singapore and finding it difficult to get a job I saw myself exploring the idea of painting (what I loved doing). So I decided to go to NAFA and did a western art course for one year. As I finished my friend discovered My Art Space. In fact, both of us joined in together.
Art has completely enriched my life. I love the entire process of self–creating. It is so amazing to begin with a blank canvas and fill it up with colours, expressions, emotions and your feel, it completely reminds me of the same feeling I had when I designed my sites (my interior work). When I finish my painting and I am happy with it, it gives me a great sense of accomplishment. Art makes me feel alive.
Please share on your learning experience and what you like about My Art Space.
I simply love My Art Space. The freedom to choose your own subject and paint what you feel like painting just changed everything for me. I am truly grateful to the teachers who are constantly pushing you to do better and at the same time giving a lot of emphasis to self- learning which is highly enriching. It’s so inspiring to see others creating and one is constantly learning from each other. The place is filled with people from all walks of life and is a great place to make new friends.
One important thing that My Art Space teaches is to become fearless and experiment. You may not succeed first but u will get around it only if you try.
In this place time flies magically.
What's your favourite artwork?
There are so many, so hard to pick one art work. What comes to my mind, are the paintings on the ceiling of the Vatican (Sistine Chapel). A whole story unfolding in front of your eyes. It is gorgeous, beautiful and breathtaking.
What are you trying to communicate with your art?
For me, each art work of mine tells a story which I hope I am able to convey visually (it’s like communicating without words). Emotions which make up our life e.g. happiness, solitude, friendship etc.
Through art I am trying to explore broad ideas or themes, by exploring different subjects.
Tell us what plans you have for your art future?
I intend to continue exploring the process and learning more and mastering the same. I also dream to have an exhibition in the near future....Moving ahead and taking one step at a time. The quote- “DO WHAT YOU LOVE AND LOVE WHAT YOU DO” is my motto.
